Techfugees Kenya will be joining the 36 Million Solutions: Africa Private Sector Forum on Forced Displacement, an inaugural historical gathering bringing to the fore the growing role and importance of Africa’s private sector’s response to the forced displacement crisis in the continent.

36 million refers to the unprecedented number of people of concern to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Africa which includes refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), stateless persons, and asylum-seekers.

36 Million Solutions is our collective response to this staggering number and sets in motion the ambitious target of our response: to ensure that every person forced to flee their home because of violence, persecution, or conflict in Africa has the support, resources, and tools to rebuild their lives.

To achieve this, the Forum will convene the private sector (including companies, business and industry leaders, and foundations), government officials, humanitarian sector leaders and the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency to facilitate the new way forward in this multi-stakeholder approach.

The Forum will serve as a platform for Africa’s private sector-led response to the forced displacement crisis in the region dedicated to:

  1. Dialogue and discourse on multi-stakeholder innovative approaches towards refugee and IDP response,

  2. The signing of the Declaration of Africa Private Sector Response to the Forced Displacement Crisis in the Region and,

  3. Announcements of formal commitments and contributions from the private sector to support forcibly displaced persons and the communities that host them.

The Forum will also enable the opportunity for Africa private sector leaders who pledged during the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva in December 2019 to present on implementation, updates, and shared best practices moving forward.

The Forum is convened by the  Amahoro CoalitionUNHCR — the UN Refugee Agency, and African Entrepreneur Collective, in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda.
