Hear the latest from out recent event where remote working and world-class talent lent a hand to two growing projects…
June 2019 saw Techfugees team up with Expedia for our second workathon; a hackathon with a difference. Winners of our 2018 Global Challenges competition were invited to work with Expedia staff and accelerate their projects using cutting-edge tools, software, and expertise.
Both were assigned to a team of Expedia engineers from all over the world to help overcome challenges and clear tech backlogs. That meant setting up a relay system where tasks were completed in one-time zone, letting those working on the next stage grab the baton when they woke up.
Lending a hand around the world
Antura & the Letters’ got the support of 12 people from Expedia working in Bellevue, Seattle, Montreal, Stockholm, Paris, and Gurgaon.
They benefitted from Expedia’s product development skills, discovering ways to better track and collect relevant data from users. The design review and some suggested edits to the Arabic text will help further improve the user experience of a successful game like Antura and the Letters that already has more than 200.000 downloads.
Meanwhile, Integreat’s 20-strong team worked across Bellevue, Seattle, Berlin, Michigan, Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Singapore, Shenzhen, and Brisbane, getting help with software development.
They created a new dashboard to collate information from local municipalities and translate it more efficiently. Not only does this enable better translation quality across more languages, it makes API documentation much easier. All this helps the project scale.
Come on board for a workathon!
Expedia staff themselves gave some amazing feedback. It felt great to put their immense talent to work making tangible contributions towards a more connected, friendly world.
Now, it’s over to you.
Techfugees are looking for more companies to give a few days of their teams’ time to work with more of our project winners. By providing resource and mentoring, you’ll help secure better outcomes for these important projects and give back to the global tech community.
