Techfugees Italy started in November 2015 with a first conference and hackathon in collaboration with H-Farm. The 24-hour hackathon briefed by humanitarian organizations such as Save the Children, the Red Cross and Intersos, helped a group of young tech enthusiasts develops their projects. The hackathon was accompanied by a one day conference where institutional speakers and startups all intervened to discuss the issues and the possible digital solutions to the emergency issues of migrants.
Since then, Techfugees Italy has hosted two more hackathons one in Torino with Intersos, an Italian humanitarian organization that intervenes to effectively meet the needs of civil population in serious crisis situations, the TOP-IX incubator and StartMiUp to bring together the local community of tech enthusiasts and creatives with the needs of the NGOs; and another one in Roma in April 2017.
The Techfugees’ chapter in Italy is currently on hold.
