In Transit: a day conference dedicated to populations and ideas on the move – June 29, 2016

Impact Hub Athens and Techfugees are partnering up to organise a whole day event on June 29th to further highlight another perspective of the refugee situation, that often passes unnoticed: the skills and knowledge these people possess and how the qualifications of migrant and refugees populations can become the driving force for more effective and long-term integration processes with local social groups.

At the end of 2015, 1 million people had come to Europe by sea and 3.2 million people in industrialized countries were awaiting decisions on their asylum application. These unprecedented numbers have sparked the creativity of an international community of tech entrepreneurs, volunteers and social case workers to come with solutions to the various challenges these volumes are generating.

The event happening at Impact Hub Athens will aiming to collect innovative solutions and to co-create a series of disruptive initiatives that can help existing ones through an exchange of stories, experiences and insights of what is really happening in the field today.

The event brings together representatives from NGOs who work on the forefronts of the refugee crisis, along with innovative social entrepreneurs around themed panel discussions.

The event will also include comics workshops for children hosted at Athens Comics Library,  facilitated by Comicdom Press, and an exhibition by the Afghan photographer Nadir Nouri. Music and food from local cuisines (Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia) curated by the multicultural editorial team of Solomon Magazine will conclude our gathering.

The event brings for the first time Techfugees, Impact Hub and Solomon magazine, a member of the social business community that works towards generating a positive impact on our city, together to speak about what is happening locally – beyond the headlines in the media.
