Techfugees is marking World Refugee Day <\/a>2016 in partnership with Schibsted Media Group on June 20th.<\/p>\n Watch our broadcast from the event.<\/a><\/p>\n Attendees and donors to\u00a0the event will be able to enter\u00a0to a raffle to win tickets for a rare concert of\u00a0the Syrian National Orchestra, the\u00a0Damascus-based orchestra which was scattered around the world by the country\u2019s civil war, and\u00a0is reuniting for the first time\u00a0in London\u00a0on Saturday 25th of June.<\/p>\n The event will start with a presentation by Mike Butcher on the progress made by the Techfugees’ team<\/a> and community since its inauguration in September 2015, where it began life as a simple Facebook group<\/a> with a big idea.\u00a0Nine\u00a0months later, Techfugees is proud to say that it is represented in 25+ hubs globally<\/a>, is following 100+ tech refugee related projects, and is looking to support those projects further via Basefugees, its web-based platform supporting technology projects around the world that respond to current refugee needs and NGO challenges.<\/p>\n Next, Lena K. Samuelsson, the\u00a0Executive Vice President Communications and CSR of Schibsted\u00a0Media Group, a global media company driven by new technology, will introduce the global strategic partnership on events with Techfugees, the purpose of which is to provide tailored support to Techfugees’ global network of local chapters & events.<\/p>\n Schibsted is familiar with the refugee situation having been\u00a0involved with humanitarian organisations on the ground (see\u00a0The Second Hand Effect<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Saving lives with the Yellow Boats<\/a>).
